"There was a darkness
to many of his works,
notwithstanding their
irreverence. 'Bed' was
gothic. The all-black
paintings were solemn
and shuttered. The red
paintings looked charred,
with strips of fabric,
akin to bandages, from
which paint dripped,
like blood."

Co-op America: Tell Exxon: Use your massive profits for cleaner energy!

Take action now to let Exxon know that as a consumer and investor, you think Exxon should shift its massive profits away from tar sands and oil, and increasingly to renewable energy.

As gas prices spiral upward, ExxonMobil posted record profits for 2007: an astounding $40.6 billion in profits based on $404 billion in sales, and it looks like they are headed for obscene profits again this year, with $10.9 Billion in profits reported in just the first quarter of 2008. Exxon defends these profits by saying they spent $80 billion on developing energy sources between 2002 and 2006, with an additional $20 billion planned for 2008. However, almost none of this development money is going to renewable energy research and development that will break our oil addiction and create a secure and green energy future for the US.

Sonoma Mountain Village...the future of planning and development.
Check out this amazing project which will be the only One Planet Community in North America...

Each neighborhood will have a New Urbanist treatment: narrow streets lined with wide sidewalks and porches. In many cases, kitchens will overlook the street so that a resident working at the sink can wave to passersby or chat when windows are open. Each neighborhood will have a pocket park with public art.

To reduce car use, the town center will offer essential services as well as entertainment venues, a movie theater, restaurants, a bakery and a daily farmers market. For commuting, residents can choose carpools, buses or a shuttle service to the local train station. For those willing to eschew a car altogether, the developer will organize a car-share club that lets members rent hybrid or electric cars by the hour.

STUDIO LO works on objects through strong constraints: ethical, institutional, technical and symbolic.
Having taken act of the environmental question, as well as of the economic realities of design, we created this alternative editor company in 2005. This structure allowed us, to develop objects, without institutio-
nal nor editor supports.
Our desire to manufacture "responsible objects" brought us to the shaping of natural matter in a close dialogue with a local network of SME.
Without relay, nor financial support, we have developed a «poor design», adapted to small structures of production through very limited investments.
Our research on the optimization of matter, non-standard series and chain production, led us to work with water-jet cut manufacturing. We transform technical issues into geometrical problems. A board becomes a chair through a simple cut. Our objects seek to make readable the production process, to give it an expressivity.

Pod slippers, felt screen printed, original pieces, water-jet cutting, assembly by keys.
Each slipper constitutes a tile of a hypothetically infinite periodic paving. The patterns being contiguous, each cut generates two parts, instead of one. It is the principle of the «share-cut», which we exploit largely in our creations. The rotation of the serigraphic screens, as well as the «bougé» of the cuts, allows the generation of non-standard series.
